Lucy Betteridge-Dyson

Biography

Lucy Betteridge-Dyson began working as a historian alongside her full-time job in 2017, when she started taking groups to the Western Front on battlefield tours. Since then, she has built a successful full-time career as a public historian and broadcaster, focusing on both the First and Second World Wars. She co-presented Channel 4’s ’48 Hours to Victory’ series alongside Dermot O’Leary and Arthur Williams in which they unpicked the two days that secured victory in some of Britain’s most important battles and co-presented the BBC Sounds podcast, Obsessed With…SAS Rogue Heroes. She has contributed to BBC One’s ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ as well as appearing in multiple other television shows, podcasts and online platforms, having worked with Global Radio, Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Royal British Legion. From an academic perspective, she holds an MA (Distinction) in the History of Britain and the First World War from the University of Wolverhampton. She has been invited to speak at various conferences, most recently in March 2023 for the Society of Military History in San Diego. However, the most important thing that makes her uniquely qualified to write this book, is that her Grandad was there, and it is because of his passion for sharing the story of 3 Commando Brigade and highlighting it’s importance, that Lucy pursued a career as a military historian in the first place.
